The Geauga County Department on Aging is holding a grand opening for its new West Geauga Senior Center from 4-6 p.m. May 5.
The new site at 12650 West Geauga Plaza Unit #4 in Chester Township is centrally located and has plenty of parking close to the building, which translates to big convenience for area seniors, said William Phillips, department community outreach and marketing coordinator.
“We were very fortunate to operate out of the Orchard Hills Center for many years. The Pattersons’ were generous, caring and responsive landlords. We certainly will miss them and the lush landscape of Orchard Hills,” said Jessica Boalt, department on aging director. “We are very excited, however, about the new opportunities our centrally located Chester Township senior center has to offer with local businesses only footsteps away as well as new landlords who are community focused. We believe we are in a prime location to build stronger community ties and partnerships.”
The plaza offers many amenities, such as Giant Eagle, Turney’s Hardware, Chesterland Florist and the license bureau, Phillips said.
“I am very pleased that our new location offers not only large open spaces for various recreation and education programs within the center itself, but also accessibility to other amenities that seniors can take advantage of within the plaza,” Boalt said.
Separate activity rooms at the center allow space for educational or craft classes to take place at the same time as the highly popular senior strength exercise and boxing classes, Phillips said.
“We hope that with our central location in Chester Township, we are able to be more accessible to those needing information about both recreation and education at the West Geauga Senior Center as well as services the department on aging can offer,” Boalt said. “It’s the perfect location for a quick ‘drop in’ to connect to our agency’s services.”
There is also enough seating capacity to accommodate the popular senior educational series, trainings and events, Phillips said, adding residents are welcome to stop by to see the new site, meet the staff and enjoy refreshments.
