BECC Partners With Fairmount

Berkshire Early Childhood Center is partnering with Fairmount Center for the Arts to provide a program for its students that encourages music and art exploration through a variety of engaging activities. Generously funded by the Ohio Arts Council, the weekly in-class presentation involves dedicated instructors traveling on-site and introducing the students to music and art in a hands-on way.

One recent activity was a story time art lesson presented by Miss Dean featuring the picture book “Sweet Hearts” by Jan Carr. Students enjoyed listening to the reading of the book featuring an endearing story about a panda that hides hearts around his house to surprise his family. As a follow-up art activity, students created beautiful hearts to share with family and friends.

Another favorite program was the reading of Karma Wilson’s “Bear Snores On.” Students delighted at the story of the hibernating and snoring bear that slept through his many forest visitors. Miss Dean helped the students act out the story and make their very own snoring bear and cave using a variety of art supplies. The activities showcased the talent and creativity of the students.

In addition to story and art time with Miss Dean, Miss Rachael also stops by on a rotating basis to share her talent and love for music with the students. Using repetition, rhythmic patterns and movement to music, she takes them on a joyful age-appropriate music exploration journey.

Badgers Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

Parades evoke a sense of excitement, bringing the school community together to celebrate holidays and special occasions. The Berkshire Badgers pulled out all the stops and celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a spectacular parade featuring kindergarten students, National Honor Society members and Makerspace students.

Special guest Superintendent John Stoddard, principals Mandy Randles, Shaun Forbes, Jon Franks and Heather Giel, as well as various teachers helped lead the festivities and rallied students. Berkshire mascot, Bert the Badger, as well as the Geauga Highlander Bagpipers marched alongside the participants to create an upbeat atmosphere. The assortment of candy, vibrant decorations, lively participants and entertaining music all contributed to a fun and engaging opportunity to further build a sense of community.
