Students Celebrate Veterans
Badger Lab students hosted their annual Veterans brunch to honor local veterans for their military service. Now in its fifth year, the event provides students of all abilities with opportunities to develop real-world skills such as cooking, communication, teamwork and service while giving back to those who served.
More than 50 veterans and family members were treated to a homemade brunch prepared and served by Badger Lab students and staff. The Burton American Legion Hall once again served as host site for the luncheon.
The program extended thanks to the local Veterans Food Pantry, Burton Congregational Church Food Cupboard, Heinen’s, Giant Eagle, Grand River Grounds, Heritage Meats and Burton Floral for food and supply donations that made the event a true community effort.
Art Inspired by Día de Muertos
Berkshire eighth-grade art students created artwork inspired by Día de Muertos, now on display at Playhouse Square in Cleveland. The project stemmed from an integrated Spanish and art field trip and will conclude with a visit on Nov. 12 to see “Sugar Skull! A Día de Muertos Musical Adventure.”
Students immersed themselves in art, history and social justice. Students learned the story of the iconic skeletal figure Catrina Calavera, who is featured in the play, and her original purpose as a piece of social commentary by artist José Guadalupe Posada. Students explored his satirical artwork and Catrina became a powerful emblem for change during the 1910 Mexican Revolution.
BHS Theater Presents The Trials of Robin Hood
Berkshire High School Theater will present the comedy “The Trials of Robin Hood” on Nov. 21 and 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Berkshire High School auditorium. Audience members will play a role in deciding Robin Hood’s fate during this interactive and entertaining performance.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens, available at the door, cash only.
