Berkshire HS Hosts Ceremony

Berkshire Local Schools hosted a special ceremony on Dec. 17 in the gymnasium, where several local elected officials took their oaths of office. Geauga County Commissioner Jim Dvorak delivered opening remarks and introduced the honorees, including Judge Robert J. Patton (11th District Court of Appeals), Ohio State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (99th District), newly elected Geauga County Commissioner Carolyn Brakey, Geauga County Prosecutor James R. Flaiz, Geauga County Engineer-elect Andrew Haupt and Geauga County Sheriff Scott A. Hildenbrand.

During the ceremony, officials briefly shared insights about their roles and responsibilities. The oaths were administered in front of an impressive floor-to-ceiling U.S. flag courtesy of donations from area residents and businesses through the Patriot’s Project. \Brakey, accompanied by her husband and two children, was sworn into office by Fowler Arthur, becoming the fourth woman to serve as a Geauga County Commissioner. Patton administered the oath of office for Flaiz, Hildenbrand and Haupt. Hildenbrand also swore in a large contingent of deputies in attendance.

The event highlighted the patriotism and dedication of the officials and law enforcement personnel, offering Berkshire students a unique opportunity to learn about public service. Thank you to the Berkshire staff and students for hosting this meaningful civic event.

Appreciation for Overseas Service Members

Berkshire Middle School students participated in a heartwarming project to show appreciation and bring holiday cheer to military service members. For the past two years, the students have created thoughtful, hand-crafted Christmas cards for military service members overseas.

Keeping with the annual tradition, this year’s handmade greetings were recently delivered to military service members, including the crew of the new USS Cleveland and the USS Marinette. The crew members were delighted and extremely grateful for the kind, caring gesture and show of appreciation. The cards reflect Berkshire’s unwavering commitment to supporting the unique academic, social and emotional needs of students and families connected to the nation’s Armed Forces.

The system of support includes dedicated military liaisons who serve as points of contact between military families and the school district. Visit the district’s homepage for a comprehensive list of resources available to military families.
