Rotary Speech Contest

On Feb. 20, three students from Cardinal High School and one student from Berkshire High School competed in the Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Competition at the Welshfield Inn. Senior Josiah C. from Berkshire won the first place cash prize, while Cardinal freshman Chloe D. and senior Matthew B., took home the second and third place prizes, respectively.

All four students, including Cardinal freshman Chloe S., gave exceptional speeches on subjects related to societal issues ranging from the following topics of social credit, mental health needs for teens, death with dignity laws and teen suicide.
Along with scholarships, providing students with dictionaries and other books, and many other service projects to benefit local students, Rotary offers the opportunity every year for area teens to become better public speakers while having the chance to win substantial cash prizes. The students each present a speech applying ethical issues to the principals of Rotary International’s Four Way Test, which are: is it the truth, is it fair, will it build goodwill and better friendships and will it be beneficial to all concerned.
