County Award Winner
Senior Kailyn F. on her selection as the Franklin B. Walter All Scholastic Award winner for Geauga County.
Kailyn represented Cardinal and Geauga County on April 11 when she received her award in Columbus at the Ohio Educational Service Center Association spring conference. The recognition was started by Ohio’s county superintendents in 1989 as a way to recognize outstanding senior scholars from each county in the state. Winners are selected based on their academic achievements, personal accomplishments and community service contributions.
The district was informed that Kailyn was a unanimous decision by the selection committee here in Geauga County. Kailyn plans to attend Otterbein University in the fall, where she will major in international business.
First-Grade Plant Experiment
First-graders are learning all about what plants need to live and grow. With the help of science guy, Claire Zurbuch, aka Professor Z., students worked together to plant one group of bean seeds in trays with soil, water and access to sunlight. The other group of seeds was planted in the same soil, with water and very little to no access to sunlight. Students will spend the rest of the school year keeping an eye on their plants to compare and contrast how the two groups of plants grow.
