Cardinal Holds Stadium Celebration
It was a picture perfect night to celebrate the opening of the new bleachers and all-weather track at Cardinal High School on Sept. 20. Prior to kick-off of the varsity football game school administrators, board members, booster members, alumni and community members that played a role in getting the project completed were on hand to cut the ribbon officially opening the areas to the community.
The district was pleased to have 1981 graduate and Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame member Kevin Pollari on hand to cut the ribbon. Pollari and his family gave $100,000 to help fund the project.
Superintendent Bill Kermavner also took time to recognize all of those individuals, groups and companies that played a role in the project’s completion. They included: Pollari, the Polumski family, former Superintendent Scott J. Hunt, athletic director Jim Soltis, district Treasurer Merry Lou Knuckles, board members, district administrators, the Village of Middlefield, former athletic director, coach, teacher and alumnus Bill Fisher, booster members, the Huskie Nation Foundation, Geosurfaces, Zeigler Earthworks, Cleveland Plumbing, Carter Lumber, Osborne Concrete, Ronyak Paving, Groundworks Construction, Shannon Fence, Al’s Plumbing, CMS Principal and former athletic director Andy Cardinal, maintenance supervisor Brian Kelly, Dave Krebs, Jesse Soltis and Adam Soltis. Thank you to everyone who made this dream a reality.
Hall Of Fame Weekend
Members of the 2019 Distinguished Alumni and Athletic Halls of Fame have been officially inducted. The commemorative weekend started with a special assembly on Sept. 20 at Cardinal High School for inductees who could attend. Several members of the 1978 wrestling team attended along with Distinguished Alumni members Jay Lytle, and Fran Wesseling.
Attendees spent about an hour speaking to students about their accomplishments and how their time at Cardinal helped prepare them for their successes. Following the assembly, a dinner was held for inductees and a guest at the high school and the group was recognized at halftime of the varsity football game.
The formal induction ceremony was held Sept. 21 at Shangri-La Event Center. Inductees and their guests were treated to dinner and had an opportunity to speak to attendees about what the honor meant to them.
