Jordak Teacher Honored
Jordak Elementary School second-grade teacher Lisa Simms has been selected as the Geauga Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) 2020 Conservation Teacher of the Year. Individuals are chosen for their exemplary efforts, accomplishments and commitment to conservation education.
Mrs. Simms has been teaching at Cardinal for over 30 years. Throughout her career, Mrs. Simms has tried to incorporate as much science as she can through presenters and field trips. While COVID is limiting adventures this year, Mrs. Simms has consistently scheduled Geauga SWCD education programs for her classes, organized habitat walks, participated in The Holden Arboretum’s Growing Students in Science program and organized many science-themed field trips to Swine Creek and the West Woods for her students.
“I am just so honored and flattered to be chosen to receive this award,” says Simms. “Science has always interested me, and as a teacher, I am constantly looking for ways to make it interesting for my students. We are fortunate to be in this area and have access to so many wonderful educational resources that really help impact students’ understanding of science and the world we live in.”
