Student Wins Achievement Award

Cardinal Middle School eighth-grader Colby T. was recently chosen as the 2017 Junior Youth Achievement Overall National Winner by the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders’ Association.

Colby has been breeding Brown Swiss cattle for the last five years. To be considered for the Junior Achievement Award, Colby had to write a four page essay and answer questions about the dairy industry. Kids from ages 10-16 compete for this prestigious honor.

Brown Swiss selected him because of his involvement and commitment to the betterment of the breed and the dairy industry. Colby was recognized at the National Brown Swiss convention in Canton on July 8.

Cardinal Band Night

It was a packed house for the Cardinal Band Night on July 27. The marching band invited the community to attend a free performance at Moss Field after spending three days rehearsing the new routines at band camp.

Band camp was held at CHS and students, advisors, booster members, parents and volunteers all worked extremely hard to put on a successful camp.

“This year was a little different for us, but this was probably one of the best camps we’ve had in years,” says band director Tim Florjancic. “Everything ran very smoothly, the kids worked hard and I can’t thank the boosters, parents and volunteers enough for all of the food and fun they provided during the week. We are also extremely grateful to the thank you.”

The band also paid tribute to the Joe Peters family, holding up “thank you” signs on the field for their contribution in the elimination of the pay-to-participate fees for all fall activities.
