Kiwanis Recognizes Students
The East Geauga Kiwanis Club gave belated recognition to two Cardinal students who could not attend the Scholarship Dinner in June. President Ken Humphrey presented Hanna S. with the Cardinal Outstanding Freshmen award, and 2017 graduate Megan Tucker received her Key Club Scholarship. Congratulations.
Cheerleaders Named All Americans
Cardinal High School’s cheerleading team recently finished a successful cheerleading camp. The squad went to Mount Vernon University for Cheer Camp hosted by AmeriCheer AmeriDance.
The team brought home a trophy, plaque and several ribbons for its performances during the two-day camp. Freshmen Alissa H. and Chauna L., junior Katlyn L. and seniors Sarah H. and Marina C. were chosen as All American cheerleaders and have been invited to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York or the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade in Chicago, the Citrus Bowl and the Cleveland Cavaliers Spectacular.
Other members of the squad include seniors Rhianna H., Jillian H., Sarah S. and Hanna T.; junior Terryan M.; sophomores Lacey P., Ashley R., Avery V. and Erika E. and freshman Emily S.
Huskie Heroes
Cardinal is so proud of its football team after receiving an email from a Chagrin Falls couple calling them “their heroes” and the district couldn’t agree more. The guys were on their annual 10-mile canoe trip to mark the end of mini-camp when they stopped to help a couple in distress.
The couple emailed the district about the encounter and here are their words:
“We had a wonderful ‘encounter’ with several of your football team last weekend and I wanted you to know about it. How do you thank a group of young men that rescued two 70 year olds stranded on a Cuyahoga River canoe trip? I guess by telling everyone how kind and quick acting they all were, how their parents should be so proud of how they all tried to help, how compassionate they all were and how kind their coach was. I don’t know their names but they know who they are and I would appreciate it if they are recognized for what they did for us. It was scary, my husband was in the water in the currant and unable to stand up. They all stopped their canoes and helped. We are so grateful for them because this ‘adventure’ had a good ending and without them, it could have ended very differently. We wanted you to know what fine boys you have on this team at your school, and if you have special awards for random acts of kindness they, and their coach, certainly deserve it! We will be rooting for the Cardinal Football team this season that is for sure! ~ Pam & Hal Pray“
