Donations Cover Fall Activity Fees

The total cost to cover all pay-to-participate fees for fall activities this year was $98,712 and as Aug. 9, the amount was paid in full.

Tom and Joyce Peters, along with the athletic and music boosters, presented the nearly $100,000 check to Cardinal Superintendent Scott J. Hunt at the Aug. 9 board of education meeting. The donation effectively reduced pay-to-participate fees to zero for fall.

Money was raised as a result of different summer fundraisers held by the music boosters, the athletic booster car raffle and proceeds from the Joe Peters Memorial Pig Roast.

“I know our son [Joe Peters] would be very proud,” Joyce said at the meeting.

“This fundraising effort by the entire community far exceeded everyone’s expectations I believe,” said Hunt. “There aren’t enough words to express are sincere gratitude to everyone who supported our kids and their efforts to raise money. Thank you.”

Orientations Ease First Day Nerves

Many first day jitters from incoming kindergarten and freshmen students and parents were put to ease on Aug. 11 during kindergarten and ninth-grade orientations.

For the class of 2030, boys and girls were split up and came to visit the school during different designated times that day. At orientation, students had an opportunity to tour the school with parents, participate in a scavenger hunt to locate all of the important areas in Jordak Elementary School, including the office, cafeteria, restrooms, gym, music room, library, and computer room, and they also got to meet their teachers and see their classrooms.

At the high school, members of the class of 2021 heard briefly from administrators at their orientation and then divided into three groups to tour the building and participate in some ice breaker activities. At the end of the orientation, students literally ran the bell schedule to make sure they could get to their classes on time. At each stop, there were raffle tickets students could earn for a chance to win a prize.

CMS Students Set Up Lockers

Every year it’s always the first sign of back to school – CMS locker set up day. Students and their families were invited to come in on Aug. 10 to practice opening lockers, set up their lockers and walk their schedules to prepare for the year ahead. The district was so pleased to see so many families come in and participate this year.
