Kindergarten Apple Appreciation

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Courtney Dyer’s class recently learned about apples. They have learned about Johnny Appleseed, the life cycle of an apple, the parts of an apple, the different types and colors of apples, how they are grown and things that are made from apples.

Lessons were all topped off with an apple tasting. Students tasted a red delicious, a granny smith and a golden delicious apple. They then used their five senses to describe the apples.

After trying all three types of apples, the children voted on which type was their favorite. It was a tie between red delicious and granny smith, but golden delicious was not too far behind.

To culminate the apple unit, the children brought in one chopped apple to make applesauce. Mrs. Dyer cooked it all day in her crockpot and their room smelled amazing. It was a wonderful treat for the first day of fall.

Senior Wins Invitational Meet

The varsity cross country teams had a fantastic meet Oct. 3 at the George Cross Invitational in Cuyahoga Heights. Both the girls and boys finished in third place as teams and senior Megan M. was the meet champion with a time of 21:48.

Coach Tyler Jones says, “I was really impressed with everyone, especially Megan, who set her sights on winning this race and just went out and did it. She lead the entire race, start to finish, something that’s not easily done.”

Joey B. claimed eighth place and a medal with a time of 20:31 and Abby G. had a PR finishing with a time of 27:28. Other times include: Jenna A. – 26:01, Autumn Z. – 26:36, Hanna S – 29:08; Brendan W. – 20:40; Ben L. – 20:56; Trevor B. – 21:53; and Gene H. – 21:56. Congratulations, everyone.
