Academic Rallies

Congratulations to the Cardinal third- and fourth-graders who were recognized Jan. 31 at academic rallies for their academic achievements in the second quarter. Awards were also handed out in related arts (specials), Huskie Pride and Kiwanis Outstanding Students. A full list of winners will be posted on the school website soon. Way to go everyone; keep up the great work.

CMS Future City Team

The Cardinal Middle School eighth-grade Future City team placed fifth overall at the Future City Competition in Columbus on Jan. 20. It is the highest finish from any Cardinal team since Future City started in 2014. Led by teacher Shaun Spence, eighth-graders Chloe D., Justine B. and Lauren S. represented the Huskies this year, along with some assistance from sixth-grader Jackson P.

Using SimCity software, the group had to design their city and address this year’s engineering challenge of waste management. The trio had to write an essay explaining their response and when they were selected as a top finisher, they had to give a presentation to a panel of VIP judges and answer questions about their design.

In addition to their fifth place overall finish, they also received an honorable mention for Most Environmentally Friendly. Their work along with the work of other students in Future City Club was on display during a special showcase on Jan. 22.

Hall Of Fame Nominations Due

Jump Rope For Heart

Jordak Elementary School students are once again jumping at the chance to help the American Cancer Society. On Jan. 31, students attended a special assembly to get them excited for the Jump Rope for Heart campaign. Students learned about the importance of good heart health and how they can help others by raising money for the campaign.

The event has become an annual tradition in February as pups see how much good they can do for others while supporting heart health awareness.
