Students Use Simple Machines
Third-graders wrapped up their studies of simple machines with a lab involving the screw. Using the principles created by Archimedes over 2,000 years ago, they made water go uphill. Using PVC pipe and plastic tubing, they moved water tinted Grinch green from a tub, up the tube and out the top into a measuring pitcher.
The groups got into a competition to see who could move the most milliliters of water and students were fascinated by the Archimedes screw pump. Some students were even willing to stay in from recess to keep using the Archimedes screw until their tub was empty.
Mitten Tree
Last week students in all buildings participated in the animal mitten tree event. Students were asked to bring in donations for animals waiting to be adopted at the Geauga County Rescue Village. Everyone who donated had their name entered into a drawing for the chance to win a pizza party for themselves and a couple of friends at lunch before winter break.
At the elementary school, the student winner was fourth-grader William G. The middle school winners were Alydia D. and teacher Claudia Laitman, and at the high school, Mrs. Beth Drebus won herself a free lunch. Thank you to everyone who brought in items for animal friends at the Rescue Village.
Thank You, Local Donors
The Cardinal Local School District would like to thank all of the families, organizations, local businesses and churches that donated to the holiday food and gift drive. The district was once again overwhelmed by all of the support it received for families this year and truly appreciates everyone’s kindness. The community’s generosity helped provide gifts and enough food to get through two weeks of winter break for nine families this year. Cardinal thrives because of the community’s support – thank you.
