Cardiovascular Testing Offered For Student Athletes
Cardinal Local School District is taking an important step to ensure the health and safety of its student athletes. Voluntary cardiovascular testing will be offered to students, ages 12 to 25, at Cardinal High School July 25-27.
Parents can find additional information, register their child, schedule an appointment and complete the required paperwork at the following website: www.WimbledonHealthPartners.com/cardinal. Only a limited number of appointments are available.
Sudden cardiac arrest often strikes healthy individuals with no prior symptoms, so it is extremely important to be proactive in detecting dangerous heart conditions. Wimbledon Athletics will be providing non-invasive EKG, echocardiogram and vascular ultrasound testing to make sure one’s child can participate safely in sports.
Additional questions can be directed to Athletic Director Andy Cardinal at 440-632-0261.
Open Enrollment Deadline Approaching
The deadline to submit an application for open enrollment into Cardinal Schools for the 2016-17 school year is Aug. 1. Open enrollment is for students who live outside of the Cardinal Local School District and do not currently attend the schools. Enrollment is not guaranteed; acceptance is dependent on class size and done on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications can be picked up in the Board of Education Office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
CHS Teacher Presents At ISTE
High school science teacher Ben Clutter recently returned from Denver, Colo., where he had an opportunity to present to some of the more than 19,000 educators at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference and Expo. Clutter and other members of his College Ready Ohio team were selected to present two, two-hour poster sessions at the forum: “Using Google Hangouts to Enhance Your Distance PLC,” and “Social Media: Taboo or Allowed in Edu?”
Through his training with College Ready Ohio, Clutter has been incorporating the ISTE standards into his classroom here at Cardinal. The Denver expo was an opportunity for him and his group to share their findings and experiences with others interested in applying digital strategies in their classrooms to positively impact learning, teaching and leading in today’s technology-powered world.
Clutter shares this about his experience: “ISTE was great. It was exciting to be surrounded by so many experts in the field of educational technology. There was so much to take in in such a short amount of time that I had to start taking pictures of different elements and tools so I could remember to go back and investigate and use them later. The most useful tool I picked up was the websites that offer free virtual labs. This will be a fantastic tool to incorporate into the classroom this year. Additionally, I’m anxious to test a few teacher-parent communication applications I learned more about. And the keynote speaker, Michio Kaku, PhD., was very inspiring. His ideas of what the next few years will hold were amazing and really drove home the importance of using technology in education.”
