CMS Teacher Retires
Cardinal Middle S teacher Sue Libby officially retired from the Cardinal Local School District on Aug. 31 after 16 years of service. Students at the middle school held a clap out for her at the end of the day as she left for the final time.
Mrs. Libby has been in the district working as an intervention specialist. The district thanks her for her time and dedication to the students and wishes her- well in her retirement.
Players Of The Week
Cardinal High School junior Jacob R. and senior Maddie B. have been named Ward’s Lawncare and Landscape Co. players of the week for the week of Aug. 29.
Jacob is a member of the varsity soccer team. His recognition comes after scoring six goals in two wins against Berkshire and St. Martin DePorres.
Coach Mike Topalian says, “Jacob has started the season quickly on the offensive end. He has tallied six goals in the first two games, leading his Cardinal teammates in offensive production. Jacob enters his junior year maintaining a well-rounded academic and activity schedule. He is involved in school leadership activities and participates in other Cardinal sports.”
Maddie is a member of the varsity volleyball team. Her recognition comes after tallying 104 assists in three games.
Coach Karisca Chambers says, “She has the most varsity experience on that volleyball court and in our program from starting freshman year to senior year. She is a natural leader and completely controls the tempo and offense on our side of the net. She has reached well over 1,000 assists in her career and is getting close to 1,500. We are lucky to have her and a huge reason this program has been so successful is due to Maddie B.”

Kindergartners Perfect Their Names
Kindergarten students in Mrs. Dyer’s class have been working really hard at learning the letters in their names and how to write their names correctly. Recently, students tore construction paper to cover the letters of their name to make a colorful display for the hallway at Jordak Elementary School. Mrs. Dyer says her students had so much fun and adds they all did an amazing job.
Early Release Days
As a reminder, the 2016-17 school year will again see the implementation of early release days for students. The Cardinal Local School District is part of Cohort 2 for the State Personnel Development Grant. The grant requires all participants to implement the state model, Ohio Improvement Process, which requires the development of teacher-based teams.
The 2016 – 17 school year will continue to focus on creating and improving these high functioning teacher-based teams (TBT’s) so that best instructional practices can be implemented for all students. The early release days will provide the necessary time for those teams to develop.
Early release days will again be on Wednesdays; students will get out of school two hours earlier than their regular dismissal time. The middle school will release at 12:20 p.m., the high school at 12:28 p.m. and Jordak and CIS will release at 1:10 p.m. for car riders and walkers and 1:20 p.m. for bus riders. Student athletes in grades 7-12 will attend study tables, so they will not have to leave campus on scheduled practice/game days. There are no early release days planned during weeks when quarters end or there is no school due to holiday breaks.
