CIS Academic Rally

Cardinal Intermediate School third and fourth-grade students were recognized for their academic achievements in the first quarter on Nov. 9. Students received certificates for getting straight A’s, making the honor roll or merit roll, exhibiting excellence in art, computer, gym and music classes, demonstrating Huskie pride, accelerated reader achievements and various grade level awards.

A list of winners can be found on the district’s webpage at cardinalschools.org. Congratulations to everyone who was recognized – keep up the great work.

Veterans Day Salute

The CHS Key Club Veterans Day Salute was a big success on Nov. 9. Club members were thrilled that so many veterans and their families joined for breakfast and a special recognition assembly. During the assembly, students led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, the Cardinaires sang the “Star Spangled Banner,” and students spoke about the meaning behind Veterans Day and read essays they wrote. Mr. Fenner, high school technology teacher, and John Sudyk, a World War II veteran and Omaha Beach survivor, spoke about their respective military experiences. The CHS band played each military branch’s songs while those with ties to that branch stood and were recognized. There was a slide show showing photos of veterans related to students and employees in the district. The Middlefield VFW Post 9678 did a flag demonstration, and “Taps” was played. At the end of the assembly students and staff shook the hands of Veterans in attendance and thanked them for their service. We are grateful to all who have served – thank you for your service!

CMS Dedicated Dozen

Congratulations to the first quarter Dedicated Dozen at Cardinal Middle School. The Dedicated Dozen are a group of sixth-graders selected to be rewarded by their teachers for their outstanding efforts in the classroom during the first grading period. Students are treated to breakfast from their teachers as their reward.

The first quarter group includes: Ethan D., Paul G., Nathan O., Serenity M., Makya G., Caden G., Sabrina C., Aaron P., Brooke T., Tim M., Audrey A. and Cassie N.

Vote For A Cause

Third-graders cast very important votes in Mrs. Tropf’s social studies classes on Nov. 8. Dr. Seuss, who ran for president as the kids’ candidate, asked students across the country to help choose what charity his administration should support with a $10,000 donation when he gets into office.

Prior to the vote, students reread old Dr. Seuss favorites, including “The Cat in the Hat,” “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” “The Lorax” and “Horton Hears a Who.” Each book was paired with a charity and students wrote persuasive pieces to explain to their peers why they were going to vote the way they were. The charities are First Book, Oceana, Conservation International, Feed the Children, and PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center (NBPC).

On Election Day, students cast their ballots at the start of class. Poll workers checked all the students in and then directed them to the electronic voting booths to cast their votes. Everyone received an “I voted” sticker after casting his or her ballot.
