District Spelling Bee Champ

After an epic 18 round battle on Jan. 13, the Cardinal Local School District crowned sixth-grader Hennessy M. as the 2016-17 spelling bee champion. Hennessy beat out 23 other spellers from grades 3-8, winning on the word “closure.” She will now represent Cardinal in the Geauga County Spelling Bee to be held Feb. 7.

Coming in second was sixth-grader Gavin B. Third place went to third-grader Elisabeth M. and rounding out the top four was seventh-grader Stevie H.

Congratulations to the winners and to all of the students who participated in the bee.

Judge Presents Flag To CMS

The Cardinal Local School District was honored to have Geauga County Juvenile Court Judge Timothy Grendell present an Ohio flag to Cardinal Middle School on Jan. 12. Judge Grendell came to the middle school and spoke to fifth-grade students.

Students shared their rather impressive knowledge of Ohio state flag facts and Ohio history with the judge and his staff. The judge also took time to talk about Ohio history, juvenile court processes and answer student questions about his career, cases and height – he is 6 feet 7 inches tall for anyone who is wondering.

He also presented the school with a certificate showing the flag he gave flew over the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus on Dec. 5, 2016. The school appreciates the time he took with the students. Thank you, Judge Grendell.

 Family Fun Fest

The Cardinal Local School District invites all of families and community members to attend its first Family Fun Fest. The free event will be held on Feb. 2 from 4-8 p.m. at Cardinal Middle School. There will be music, food and activities to help get kids active and engaged.

The event is about family, fun and developing a passion in the community’s kids. It is proudly provided by Cardinal Middle School, the Geauga County Educational Service Center and area church youth programs.
