Gettysburg Field Trip

The Cardinal Middle School eighth-grade class recently took a trip to Gettysburg, Pa., where they took a guided tour of famous battlefield landmarks such as Little Round Top and Pickett’s Charge; a visit to the Gettysburg National Cemetery, where Lincoln gave his famous Address; and a scary excursion to the supposedly haunted Jennie Wade home, site of the only civilian killed during the three-day battle.

Student Emma T. says, “One thing I learned while visiting the battleground of Gettysburg is that there’s an Eternal Flame that always burns to represent those who fought for the freedom we now have. I really did enjoy visiting the ground where Lincoln stood for his Gettysburg Address as well.”

Student Hanna S. said, “One of the best things about the trip was walking around and touring where the three-day battle took place. It made me understand more about how the Battle of Gettysburg took place.”

Trip leaders, Mr. Kruse and Mr. Cappelucci, on behalf of the students, would like to thank the Cardinal Middle School PTSA for supporting the trip, Chere Fenselon for being the parent coordinator and the group of parent chaperones who volunteered their time to make this valuable educational experience possible.

8th-Grade Clap Out

Eighth-graders received a special send-off as they left Cardinal Middle School for the last time on June 1. Students in grades five through seven lined the halls and “clapped out” the eighth-graders as they left for summer break. There were many high fives and a few tears as students walked out the doors, but everyone knows they’ll love being at the high school in the fall – they’re going to be an awesome addition.

Elementary Principals Pied

Positive behavior pays off for students at Jordak Elementary School and Cardinal Intermediate School. All year students could collect Huskie Bucks as a reward for modeling a behavior represented in the PRIDE rubric Productive, Respectful, Involved, Determined, Empathetic. Throughout the year, students could cash in their Huskie Bucks for rewards such as special school supplies, lunch with the principal and even a water balloon fight.

The ultimate reward was being able to throw a pie in the principal’s face, and several students saved up enough Huskie Bucks throughout the year to do just that. On May 27, Principals Kelly Bearer and Julie Fulton suited up and sat as several students threw whipped cream pies at them. One student saved enough Huskie Bucks to throw 18 pies.

Thanks, Ms. Bearer and Mrs. Fulton, for being such good sports and being so involved in promoting positive behaviors.
