Community Engagement

Chardon Schools welcomed the Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 14 to a State of the Schools / 4Es and Community Connections presentation, a networking and luncheon event hosted by the district at Chardon High School.

Chamber leadership, including executive director Melissa Ricco and board president Cathy Peters, helped make the event a success through their coordinating and advertising efforts.

The State of the Schools presentation was led by superintendent Michael Hanlon and treasurer/CFO Deb Armbruster, discussing the district’s upcoming new five-year success plan and the district’s solid financial position, respectively.

The Chardon 4Es and Community Connections panel, introduced by CHS principal Doug Murray, focused on the four post-graduation opportunities for students – enrollment, enlistment, employment and entrepreneurship and opportunities for community members to support this 4Es career-readiness mission in our schools.

The panel comprised district faculty and students, as well as board member CJ Paterniti, presenting on a few examples of the many innovative learning programs established in Chardon Schools.

CHS Earns College Success Award

Congratulations to Chardon High School on earning the GreatSchools College Success award for the third consecutive year.

This year, GreatSchools honored 1,742 public high schools in 25 states across the country with this recognition. The College Success award recognizes schools that excel in ensuring students prepare for college, enroll in college and succeed once they get there.

CHS principal Doug Murray stated, “We applaud the hard work of the entire Chardon community — including students, parents, teachers and others that aspire to help our students succeed in college and beyond.”

CREW Students Explore Job Readiness

Chardon High School’s work-based learning class – comprising approximately 20 students and established as part of the school’s CREW career-based program – welcomed district treasurer/CFO to the classroom on Aug. 23 for her interactive presentation on job readiness.

In her presentation, titled “I Want the Job!”, Armbruster highlighted important steps of the job readiness journey, including resume preparation, job searches, interviews, making a good impression, onboarding, taxes and building valuable resources.

Armbruster also introduced current job opportunities available in the district for high school students.

Concessions Offer Real-World Learning

Throughout the fall and spring seasons of the district’s soccer and lacrosse programs, Chardon High School students in Mrs. Bunker’s class are given the opportunity to work the concession stand, providing the students with real-world experience in using a cash register and practicing customer service skills.

Bunker stated, “Senior Delaney Hagan helped me in the concession stand on Sept. 3 for the boys varsity soccer game. She even got to work with a former teacher. Delaney was a great worker.”
