Hilltopper Plow Debut

Through teamwork, a group of Chardon High School students united their artistic talents to paint a snowplow blade this past spring under the direction of CHS art teacher Mr. Hauber. With an early arrival of ice and snow the week of Oct. 17, the snowplow is now officially in operation on local roads.

The Hilltopper student artists are class of 2022 graduate Claudia Schultz; senior Peyton Rosipko; and juniors Adriana Arnold, Hannah Brown, Katie Schuler and Skylar Toth.

The project opportunity was made possible by an outreach program led by the Geauga County Engineer’s Office in support of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Paint the Plow initiative. The goal of the ODOT Paint the Plow program is to allow local schools and non-profit organizations to paint an ODOT snowplow blade with messages of snow and ice safety or state, school or community pride.

Prior to the plow launching for road duty this month, the first stop for the Hilltopper snowplow was the “Paint the Plow” display at The Great Geauga County Fair 2022.

Fire Safety Lessons

The Chardon and Munson fire departments donated their time visiting elementary school classrooms throughout the month of October — National Fire Prevention Month — to share their expertise, teaching and building upon previous Hilltopper student learning regarding fire prevention and safety.

Lessons included “Stop Drop and Roll,” “Close Before You Doze” and “Get Out and Stay Out.” Students learned from CFD and MFD chiefs, inspectors and crew in the classroom and also through touring the fire trucks parked in the school parking lots.
