High School Hosts Listen, Lucy
Chardon High School recently hosted Jordan Corcoran, founder and CEO of an organization called Listen, Lucy, to talk at a student assembly about the importance of destigmatizing discussions regarding mental health.
Over the past decade, Corcoran, based in Pittsburgh, has been sharing her story of living with and managing generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder with thousands of people across the United States.
Corcoran shared her mental health experiences and some of the issues she faced with students during the assembly. She also shared techniques she has learned to help calm anxiety, including controlled breathing, prioritizing self-care, exercise and therapy.
“My hope with sharing my story and Listen, Lucy’s mission with schools across the country is that after hearing about my experiences at their age, the issues I faced, the mistakes I made along the way, and how I eventually was able to overcome my mental health crisis – they will have empathy for each other and seek help if and when they need it,” Corcoran said.
The assembly at CHS was the first of 10 free assemblies Listen, Lucy is putting on across the country.
“We are in the middle of a mental health crisis and talking about it is the first step to help us endure and figure out the solution. I hope that sharing my story gives others permission and confidence to do the same,” Corcoran said.
