CHS Awarded Library Grant
With the new year will come new books for the Chardon High School library.
CHS Media Specialist Victoria Eby says, “Thanks to the generosity of the State Library of Ohio and the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), Chardon High School was awarded the maximum amount of a Celebrating Ohio Book Awards and Author (COBAA) Grant.”
According to Mrs. Eby, the $1,500 grant will be used to order over 70 award-winning and nominated books.
The COBAA Grant was started in 2016 to help eligible libraries expand their collections to include more Ohio book and author award winners. The new books will include selections from the Ohioana Book Awards, Buckeye Children’s and Teen Book Award, James Cook Book Award, Dayton Literacy Peace Prize, The Anisfield-Wolf Award, Norman A. Sugarman Children’s Biography Award. The new books will include both hardcover and paperback. In an effort to diversify the current collection, some large print books and books appropriate for eight graders are included.
Munson Family Paint Night
Busy Bees Pottery and Art Studio is coming to Munson School on Jan. 16 for a family paint night. Participants can choose from a variety of pottery items to paint for a fun, family event with other Munson families. Details can be found in the Munson parent newsletter.
New Attendance Tracking System
With the start of second semester, Chardon High School has implemented an automated student, visitor and substitute teacher check-in/out system. Checkmate Plus is an attendance tracking system linked to Infinite campus that uses a barcode that is applied to every student ID.
Now, as students enter the building after the bell rings, they will walk into the main office or student services and scan their ID and receive a ticket that allows them to enter class while entering their attendance automatically.
Likewise, students who return back from open campus will no longer have to sign in on a clipboard. They will enter the main office and use their ID to “check-in” from open campus. Their attendance status is recorded into the system automatically, saving countless hours of record keeping by school staff.
Guests who enter the building will have their license barcode scanned. A picture of the visitor is taken, which will print on the visitor badge. This will allow staff to easily identify who is in the building, improving the overall safety and security of students and staff.
