Educational Visioning Sessions
Chardon Schools is thankful to the 112 members of the community who participated in the Educational Visioning Sessions facilitated by ThenDesign Architecture on Feb. 22 and 26. The two events yielded outstanding community discussions and an excellent reset point for the school district as Chardon Schools begins discussions around its long-term facilities needs.
Of the two sessions’ combined 112 participants, 86 percent were residents of the Chardon Local School District, 33 percent were school district employees, 16 percent were Chardon Schools students and 14 percent were nonresidents, which included parents and/or employees. All registered participants were accepted to participate in the sessions and received their first choice session.
Chardon Schools looks forward to sharing results with the community of input collected from both visioning sessions.
Online Auction Goes Live
Chardon Schools Foundation’s annual online auction is in full swing with well over 230 items for the public to bid on in support of educational grants for creative and innovative classroom projects in Chardon Local Schools. The Foundation is a non-profit organization that has provided approximately $500,000 in grants since its establishment in 1989.
Recent classroom projects made possible by CSF at Chardon High School have included Pi-Top computers that students build and program, Academic Decathlon study materials and competition fees, lighting for theater classes and virtual reality field trip equipment, while the Chardon Middle School has benefited from Spheros robots and Lego Mindstorm kits for the robotics club, Breakout EDU problem-solving kits for brainstorming and team-building purposes, materials for an extracurricular book club, and funding for Internet safety speaker Jesse Weinberger.
Among the recent CSF-funded elementary school projects are Orff xylophones for music class, CreoPop pens for art class, cameras for journalism projects, and Skype author visits. Tiny Toppers Preschool, now in its second year of operation, was brought under the eligibility umbrella for funding as of fall 2019, and CSF looks forward to grant proposals from the preschool in the near future.
With the goal of continuing its mission to provide educational grants throughout the district, CSF volunteers have been hard at work once again to ensure the annual online auction continues to speak to a variety of interests by including such listings as restaurant gift cards, sports memorabilia, massage and salon gift certificates, jewelry, sporting event tickets and packages, family adventures, summer camps, housewares, theater passes, local artwork and so much more.
The online format of the auction is designed to provide convenience for all members of the community, allowing for 24/7 bidding at their leisure without requiring the commitment of attending a formal event. The auction can be accessed at www.csfauction.org where open-to-the-public bidding is currently in progress, and new items are added daily.
In keeping with tradition, the final hours of the auction will be televised live beginning at 5:30 p.m. on March 7 via Geauga-TV on channels 1020 and 1025. The live broadcast is always a fun walk back in time, reminiscent of the telethon era and providing entertainment with on-air visits from special guests. The fast and furious bidding will continue with boards introduced, revisited and then closed with the final boards closing sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
The Foundation is deeply grateful for the incredible support of local businesses, organizations and individual community members who have so generously contributed their time, talents and financial resources by providing gift baskets and gift cards to make this year’s event possible, all in support of Chardon Schools students. Auburn Hosts Parent Day
Auburn Career Center hosted its Annual Parent Visit Day on Jan. 31, opening the doors to approximately 300 parents, grandparents and younger siblings.
“Parents get to experience a day in the life of their Auburn student,” said Cayley Volpin, ACC career development and enrollment specialist. It’s meant to be engaging, hands-on and a chance for our students to show off the skills they have learned so far in their program – whether it’s cooking their favorite dish, showing off their welding ability, or giving their parent a brand new hairdo.”
