Junction Auto Car Raffle

Chardon Schools, together with the Chardon Athletics Department, is deeply grateful to announce the launch of an exciting car raffle courtesy of Junction Auto Family and sponsored by Junction together with Chardon Athletics. Proceeds from the raffle are earmarked for a new scoreboard at Chardon Memorial Field.

The grand prize winner becomes the proud new owner of a 2020 GMC Terrain retailing for over $29,000, while the second-place winner receives $500.

“The Junction Auto Family has been an exceptional community partner with the Chardon Schools,” said Superintendent Michael Hanlon. “We are excited about the potential of this generous donation to assist us in making some needed improvements at Memorial Field. Our sincere appreciation to Cliff Babcock and the entire Junction Auto Family.”

Raffle tickets went on sale to the school community and general public on Oct. 16. The tickets are $25 each. Ticket sales will end at noon on Feb. 5, 2021, with the raffle drawing taking place during the Chardon Boys varsity basketball game that evening at halftime. The winners need not be present.

“We are excited to get this launched and appreciate all Junction Auto Family has done to make this possible,” said Doug Snyder, Chardon athletics director.

Cookie Moon Phase Project

Chardon Middle School students in teacher Jackie Brown’s seventh-grade science class have been busy learning about the Earth-Moon-Sun system. Included in the curricular unit is a study of the phases of the moon.

To facilitate student learning about the moon phases, Brown incorporated a memorable hands-on project into the lesson on Oct. 21.

Students were provided with their own pack of store-packaged cookies. With face masks still on, desktop shields up and handwashing and desk sanitizing before and after the project, students independently worked on applying the sugar cookies’ cream filling to the top surface of the cookies in order to create the different parts of the moon that are illuminated during each moon phase.

Students Serve Gearity Community

In September, Chardon High School students in teacher Rob Mizen’s Chardon Service Learning class helped pack and distribute over 4,000 pounds of produce delivered by Greater Cleveland Food Bank to Gearity Professional Development Elementary School in University Heights. The Chardon students then helped distribute the free produce to the Gearity community while on-site at the school.

The service opportunity for CSL students is made possible by the Cleveland Food Bank’s School Market program, an initiative developed to reach more children and young families at risk of hunger. CSL students have been regularly volunteering at Gearity since the program was established at the school in 2019.
