Students in the Chardon high, middle and elementary schools will benefit from over $4,000 in grants awarded this fall by the Chardon Schools Foundation. The Foundation is grateful for the generous support of the community through past fundraising efforts that enabled the grants to be awarded.
High school students participating in the online publication of the student newspaper, “The Hilltop Echo” will be able to learn advanced web design and update the newspaper site using the resources and training provided by the Student News Organization site. Using the site’s updated features, students will have increased hands-on opportunities to create layouts, produce multimedia content and publish their original work for their school and community readers.
Middle school STEM students will have an easier time creating 3D design projects and be able to create more precise designs by using the up-to-date mice provided by the grant. The Foundation has partnered with the Crescendo Club to provide xylophones for music students in the fourth grade. This instrument has been featured in the curriculum and concerts in grades K-3 with great success. Now students will be able to continue their learning in fourth grade.
Elementary students and their families will have additional materials available through their counselors when working through difficult and traumatic events.
Also known as the Academic Boosters, the Foundation is a nonprofit, volunteer organization serving all five district schools – Chardon Early Learning Center, Chardon High School, Chardon Middle School, Munson Elementary and Park Elementary – annually awarding nearly $30,000 in grants for creative and innovative classroom projects designed to enrich student learning.
The grants were made possible by the generous support of the Chardon community in the past. Future grant awards can only be possible through continuing support. The Chardon Schools Foundation is currently running its 2021 fall fundraiser with a goal of raising $20,000 through online donations. The event extends through Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30.
Each donor will have the opportunity to be thanked publicly on the Foundation’s social media pages, and each donor is automatically entered into a drawing for a grand prize package consisting of a 2022-23 Chardon Athletics family pass, one $50 Home Depot gift card, and one $50 Bass Lake Taverne gift card. The random drawing will be held virtually on Dec. 1, and the winner need not be present.
