Jump Rope for Heart
February was an exciting month for students at Cardinal Intermediate School. The American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart fundraising program was in full force at the school and each student was given the opportunity to create a poster about the heart.
The program gave students a chance to become health advocates for their school and community. All the posters that were turned in are phenomenal and are on display at A.J. Jordak Elementary School.
Each poster was also entered into the intermediate school’s heart poster contest. The top three winners won a Subway lunch with Miss Ely, the physical education teacher, and have their posters on display at the local Subway.
CMS Girls Basketball
The Cardinal Middle School eighth-grade girls team recently finished a successful season. The girls had eight wins and five losses.
Key wins over CVC rivals Berkshire and Painesville were highlights of the season. Coach Luke Kruse is proud of the progress the girls made and their hard work and commitment to success.
Team leaders were: Rebecca Detweiler on points; Madison Barlow-Potter on rebounds; Camryn Azbell on steals; and Hannah Webb on blocks.
Teacher In-Service Day
There will be no school for students on April 10 for school safety training and curriculum in-service for all Cardinal staff.
A Sad Good-Bye
Cardinal Schools recently lost a very special friend. For 14 years, Mary Ann Weaver volunteered at Parkman Elementary, Jordak Elementary, Cardinal High and Cardinal Middle school libraries, and most recently, in the Jordak CAB program. She touched the lives of every person who ever borrowed a book.
Mary Ann was a very soft spoken and kind woman. She willingly helped with major projects, such as inventories and the consolidation of the elementary school libraries. She came in at least one day a week frequently more often to prepare books for circulation, shelve returns and to repair damaged items.
As busy as Mary Ann was, she would not hesitate to stop and listen to a child read or repair a book that was needed immediately by a student or staff member, and always with a smile.
Our sincere condolences go out to Mary Ann’s family. Mary Ann will be greatly missed, but always remembered.
