First-Grade Reading

First-graders in Mrs. Kaitlyn’s Shahidian’s class are learning new reading skills. During Readers Workshop, students learn a new skill, practice it with a partner and then practice it independently.

They recently learned to “take a sneak peek” and look through the book to get an idea of what it is about before they start reading.

Classmates will then talk to one another and make predictions based on the pictures before they begin reading. An adventure awaits them on every page.

KHS Students of the Month

Kenston High School is pleased to announce its Students of the Month for September.

Students selected for Student of the Month honors were ninth-graders Reese Gabram and Sadie Poudevigne; 10th-graders Tegan Lewis and Martin Weber; 11th-graders Cayla DiBernardo and Nathan Linsz; and 12th-graders Braden Hunt and Samuel Gulas.

Homecoming Parade

Kenston’s annual homecoming parade is Oct. 7. The parade, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will feature the Kenston band and drill team, building floats and individual participants. The theme is “Fall Harvest.”

The parade will begin in the high school staff parking lot. Please park between the middle school and intermediate school and view from the lawn of the middle school.

The school is also looking for individuals with a convertible willing to be part of the parade transporting the homecoming court. If any business or organization wants to participate in the parade, contact KHS Associate Principal Katie Phillips at 440-543-9821.
