National Merit Students Named
The National Merit Scholarship Corp. has announced Kenston seniors Jacqueline Jeromin, William Parsons and Abigail Vossler were named semifinalists in the National Merit Achievement and National Merit Scholarship academic competitions. Approximately 16,000 semifinalists were named in the 63rd annual National Merit Program.
Kenston’s commended scholars are Alyssa Kassouf, Morgan Spehar and Madison Spicuzza.
High school seniors across the country entered the National Merit Program by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screening for 1.5 million applicants. The nationwide pool of semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, including the highest scoring entrants in each state.
The National Merit semifinalist will compete for 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered in the spring.
Homecoming Court 2017

The student body will vote to select the king and queen from the senior court. The homecoming king and queen will be announced at halftime of the game Sept. 22 versus Brush.
Student Council Elected
Congratulations to the 2016-17 Kenston High School Student Council officers.
They are: Grace Cannon, president; Samantha Hoffman and Samantha Holodinski, co-vice presidents; Allison Kosinski and Anna Rini, co-secretaries; and Connor Quinlan and Jack Roman, co-treasurers.
New Safety Measures
The safety of Kenston’s students and staff is the highest priority. Beginning this school year, the district will utilize the Raptor Visitor Management System to provide immediate, real-time screening for visitors, contractors and volunteers entering the buildings.
When entering the building, visitors will be asked to present a valid state issued ID. It will be scanned and a badge will be issued that identifies the visitor, the date and purpose of the visit.
It is important to note that the Raptor systems only scan the visitor’s name, date of birth and photo for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. Any other information on the identification is not scanned by the system and is not stored or accessible to any of the users.
A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit the schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. In the event that a person does not have identification, he or she will be escorted by a member of the staff.
This Visitor Management System provides a consistent way to oversee people entering the buildings. All visitors will be scanned into the system and required to wear a visitor badge.
Senior Night/Fan Appreciation
Let’s go Bombers! Kenston Athletic Boosters, Bomber Elite, Musical Arts at Kenston, PTO and Kenston Community Education invites the Kenston Community to attend three upcoming events in conjunction with Friday night football games.
- Sept. 22: Homecoming tailgate and game versus Brush. Food trucks will be on campus beginning at 5:30 p.m. to start the tailgate celebration.
- Oct. 13: Dollar Dog Tailgate versus Madison beginning at 5:30 p.m.
- Oct. 27: Fan appreciation after the game versus Willoughby South.
KCS to perform ‘Leading Ladies’
Kenston Center Stage will present the farcical comedy “Leading Ladies” Nov. 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Kenston High School, Robert A. Lee Auditorium.
In the hilarious comedy by Ken Ludwig, the author of “Lend Me A Tenor” and “Moon Over Buffalo,” two professional Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, Pa., is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash.
The trouble is that when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces. Romantic entanglements abound, especially when Leo falls head-over-petticoat in love with the old lady’s vivacious niece, Meg, who’s engaged to the local minister. Hilarity ensues as misinformation and misunderstandings run rampant.
Seeking Citizens Advisory Member
The Kenston Board of Education is currently seeking one (1) interested community member to fill positions currently vacant on the district’s Citizens Advisory Committee.
The Kenston Board of Education created the Kenston Citizens Advisory Committee (KCAC) at its November 2006 meeting. The purpose of KCAC is to serve as a conduit between the Kenston Board of Education and the Kenston Community by communicating, researching and providing education on strategic matters, reinforcing the district’s vision statement that “an exemplary school district is committed to establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with its community.”
By Oct. 16, individuals interested are asked to submit: one page of reason why the applicant desires to serve on KCAC; one page of resume data including background, education, experience, professional accomplishments and major strengths; and two letters of recommendation. Send the documents of application to President, Kenston Board of Education, 17419 Snyder Road, Chagrin Falls, OH 44023.
Interviews with a board committee and the KCAC president will be scheduled with duties beginning Dec. 1. It is desired that the membership be as diverse as possible on a number of demographic and professional variables. Applicants with experience in public relations are welcomed.
KCAC is comprised of nine community members and members of the board of education. Community members serve for three-year terms. KCAC will have a minimum of four meetings per year.
