Presidental Scholars Named

Michael Overman and Emma Salem have been chosen for the U.S. Department of Education’s 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Michael and Emma are two of 5,000 students that were selected for the program, which considered the 3.6 million graduating seniors throughout the nation.

Both students had exceptional scores on either their SAT or ACT college admissions tests. In addition, their scores rank them in the top 20 male or top 20 females in the state of Ohio.

Established in 1964 by executive order of President Lyndon B. Johnson, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program recognizes students who have excelled in academics, arts and technical fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named Presidential Scholars, which is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating seniors.

Semifinalists will be notified in April, with finalists announced in May.

National Merit Finalist

Michael Overman has been named a finalist in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. He will compete for over 7,500 National Merit Scholarship awards worth more than $30 million offered this spring.

He is among approximately 15,000 finalists advanced out of a nationwide pool of 16,000 semifinalists chosen in September and represented the highest-scoring entrants in each state on the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. To become a finalist, semifinalists had to submit a scholarship application, have an outstanding academic record, be recommended by a school official, write an essay and earn SAT or ACT scores confirming their qualifying test performance.
