Rotary Senior

As the Rotary Student of the Month for February, William Lauer has been honored with academic, athletic and community service awards. He maintains a 4.456 grade point average and will graduate summa cum laude. He earned an academic letter receiving course awards in Russia I, II and IV, Honors English I and Principles of Engineering. He has been recognized numerous times as a Scholar Athlete in both cross county and track and field. He is a district and regional qualifier in cross country. He has been honored with the 2021 Outstanding Jumper Award and 2021 Cross Country Golden Shoe Award.

Sports have been a large part of Will’s high school experience. He has been a member of cross country, indoortrack and outdoor track and field and conditions year-round. He has logged over 1,700 miles in the past year, with his cumulative high school total nearing 4,500 miles. He also participated in the Math Club and competed weekly against other schools.

Will has used his affinity for the Russian language to tutor people learning basic Russian in his community. He is also a pizza chef at Sirna’s Pizza, where he has worked for the past three years. He now trains newly-hired employees.

Will is undecided in his college decision but plans to attend a four-year university and major in electrical and computer engineering.

Science Olympians Head to States

Congratulations to Kenston high and middle school Science Olympiad teams. They both finished fourth at the regional tournament, which qualifies them for state competition on April 9.

In individual events, the following students placed first: Bridges – Mason Miller and Sam Koltas; Electric Wright Stuff – Ryan Menary and Henry Marth; and Green Generation – Maddie Worsdall and Viktoriya Taran. Placing second were Crime Busters – Ryan Menary and Charlotte Syslo; Experimental Design – Chloe Syslo and Ben Fink; Experimental Design – Brian Wordsall; and Solar System – Thomas Wilson and Henry Marth.

Earning third place were Cell Biology – Maddie Worsdall and Viktoriya Tara; Remote Sensing – Leah Jarmolowicz and Sophie Voudris; Rocks & Minerals – Ava Intelisano and Sophie Voudris; and WIFI Lab – Allen Studer and Gavin Watson. Students recognized for fourth place individual honors were: Anatomy and Physiology – Emma Smith, Louis Polien, Ben Fink and Michael Thompson; Astronomy – Alex Ensign and Mason Miller; Dynamic Planet – William Drushel and Samantha Wordsall; Green Generation – William Drushel and Samantha Wordsall; Food Science – Michael Thompson and Ben Fink; Experimental Design – Ava Intelisano, Leah Jarmolowicz and Max Rossiter; Road Scholar – Ryan Menary and Henry Marth; Rocks & Minerals – Thomas Wilson and Brian Wordsall; Sounds of Music – Jackson Larkin and Chloe Syslo; and Write It, Do It – Sam Snyder and Lindsey Myshrall.

Fifth Place honors were earned by Bio Process Lab: Michael Thompson and Samantha Wordsall; Bridge Building: Ben Fink and Ryan Menary; Disease Detectives – Jack Beclay, Lindsey Myshrall, Chloe Syslo and Thomas Wilson; Experimental Design – Robert Phillips, Lisa Markoff and Gavin Watson; It’s About Time – Sam Koltas and Mason Miller; Mission Possible – Charlotte Syslo and Samantha Wordsall; Ornithology – Maddie Worsdall and Ava Intelisano; and Trajectory – Max Rossiter and Luke Gulas.

State Speech and Debate

Eleven of Kenston’s Speech and Debate Team members competed at states this past weekend. Congratulations to Micah Greenberg for placing seventh and Jacob Spencer for placing 16th in Humorous Interpretation.

Kenston finished in the top half of the schools, competing at state as a team. The district recognizes its seniors for their leadership and commitment to the team and look forward to a bright future with a strong core of underclassmen.
