KIS Students of the Month
Kenston Intermediate School is pleased to announce their Students of the Month for March.
Students selected for “positive attitude” honors were fourth-graders Isabella “Biz” Adante, Gavin Greulich, Ashlyn Hunter, Maddie Little, Hannah Makesh, Slater Schoaf, Mason Schurr, Paige White and Lonnie Williams; and fifth-graders Griffin Acker, Broden Bishop, Mackenzie Blackford, Madison Davila, Hunter Kestranek, Tegan Lewis, Lucia Martino, Tommy Pecoraro, Lauren Stever, Annika Tutzer, Emelia Veon and Marin Williams.
KMS Student of the Quarter
Kenston Middle School recognizes students that have excelled in health, physical education, foreign language, technology education, art and music during the second quarter. They are sixth-graders Samantha Bergansky and Leo DeLuca; seventh-graders Amanda Eastman and Vivek Patel; and eighth-graders Alexa Busby and Derek Krueger.
Rotary Senior
Von Houk was selected Kenston’s Chagrin Valley Rotary Club Student of the Month for March. He maintains a 4.16 grade point average. He has been recognized for his efforts as a scholar athlete.
Von received the Scholar Athlete award for the highest GPA on the varsity ice hockey team. He has earned academic departmental awards in Honors Chemistry, Honors English III, pre-calculus, business and AP U.S. History. Von will graduate magna cum laude with an honors diploma and community service award.
Von is a four-year varsity letter winner in ice hockey and served as team captain during his senior year. He has also played baseball and football during his Kenston career. He is a member of the Political Action Committee at Kenston, National Honor Society and represents his peers on Principal’s Leadership Council.
As a member of Auburn Boy Scout of America Troop 101, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He has served his troop in many leadership positions including senior patrol leader, troop quartermaster, patrol leader and Order of the Arrow representative. He has also received scouting honors of Order of the Arrow, National Honor Society and attended BSA National Youth Leadership Training.
He plans to attend a four-year university and major in mechanical engineering.
NHS Officers Elected
National Honor Society members elected their officers for the 2017-18 school year. They are Anna Soryal, president; Austin Kassouf, vice president; Kim Voudris, secretary; Emma Edwards, treasurer; and Jenna Hamilton, project service coordinator.
Fine Arts Showcase
Kenston Local Schools will host the inaugural Fine Arts Showcase on April 23 in the KHS auditorium and gymnasium. The showcase will feature the district art show and music performances by bands and choruses from both the middle and high schools. Music performances begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at 9 p.m. alternating between the Robert A. Lee Auditorium and the high school gymnasium throughout the day and evening.
The showcase will also feature the annual Kenston Art Show exhibiting works from students in grades K-12. Four featured concerts will include KMS band spring concert, KMS choral spring concert, KHS band pops concert and the KHS choral spring concert. Auburn and Bainbridge townships will join Kenston Schools in celebrating their 200th birthdays.
