Third-grade teacher Michelle Spicuzza and her last year’s class was awarded second place in the 2018 ASA National Data Visualization Poster competition. The ASA/NCTM Joint Committee on Curriculum in Statistics and Probability and the ASA’s education department encourage students and their advisers to participate in its annual data visualization poster competition. A data visualization poster is a display containing two or more related graphics that summarize a set of data, look at the data from different points of view and answer specific questions about the data.
Gibas Cross Country Invitational
Kenston High School will host the sixth annual Frank Gibas Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 1, with races beginning at 8:30 a.m. A youth fun run at 9:45 a.m. as been added for athletes in grades 1-6.
Coach Frank Gibas began coaching in 1974 and started the girls cross country program in 1976. He had winning seasons for 27 consecutive years and advanced to regionals for 21 consecutive years. His team qualified for the state meet 11 times.
In 1983, his team had the “perfect season,” going undefeated in invitationals. They won the CVC championship, district championship, regional championship and state meet. In 1998, he was elected into the Ohio Association of Track & Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame.
This year, teams from Beachwood, Beaumont, Boardman, Brush, Chagrin Falls, Chardon, CVCA, Euclid, Garfield Heights, Kirtland, Lake Catholic, Madison, Massillon Jackson, Riverside, Solon, University School, West Geauga, Wickliffe and Willoughby South will compete on a course through the campus and on the wooded Kenston trails.
Admission is $5 per car, with proceeds benefitting Kenston Athletic Boosters.
Athletic Passes
Kenston High School Athletic Department is selling season passes for all home contests during the year except Kenston invitational tournaments, Western Reserve Conference tournaments and Ohio High School Athletic Association sponsored events.
Student passes are $60. Adult passes are $80. A family package for two adults and two students can be purchased for $250. Family package holders may purchase additional student passes for $50.

District Welcomes KROs
Kenston Schools and Bainbridge Police Department collaborated to implement a special police detail to the district starting in the 2018/19 school year. The Kenston Resource Officer (KRO) will be a full-time detail with rotating officers that circulate in all buildings. On any given day, the assigned police officer monitors schools, builds relationships with students to strengthen the community and assists with security planning and implementation.
