National Merit Students Named
The National Merit Scholarship Corp. has announced Kenston seniors Samuel Kress and Barbora Ptackova were named semifinalists in the National Merit Achievement and National Merit Scholarship academic competitions. Approximately 16,000 semifinalists were named in the 64th annual National Merit Program.
Kenston’s commended scholars are Hana Keebler, Joseph Morell, Tanner Mulhern, Karissa Sanchez, Samuel Selent and Paige Toft.
High school seniors across the country entered the National Merit Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screening for 1.5 million applicants. The nationwide pool of semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, including the highest scoring entrants in each state.
The National Merit semifinalists will compete for 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered in the spring.
Homecoming Parade
Kenston’s annual homecoming parade will take place Sept. 27. The parade, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will feature the Kenston band and drill team, building floats and individual participants. The theme is “Emerald City.”
The parade will begin in the high school staff parking lot. Please park between the middle school and intermediate school and view from the lawn of the middle school.
The school is looking for individuals with a convertible that would be willing to be part of the parade transporting the homecoming court or members of the Alumni Distinguished Hall of Fame.
If a business or organization would like to participate in the parade, contact Katie Phillips, KHS assistant principal, at 440-543-9821.
Community Tailgate
Join for the homecoming tailgate on Sept 28 from 5-7 p.m. at Kenston Stadium. Before the 7 p.m. kick-off versus Mayfield, mingle with the community and enjoy local food truck cuisine.
The Kenston Alumni Distinguished Hall of Fame inaugural class of 2018 will be recognized pregame and this year’s homecoming court during halftime.
KHS Parent Conferences
On Sept. 20, Kenston High School will host parent conferences for the first nine weeks. The parent teacher conference is an opportunity for parents to learn about their child’s progress in school and for teachers to gain insight into their student’s home and community lives.
The high school utilizes an “open” format with teachers at individual tables set up in the gym where parents can stop to see any or all of their child’s teachers. Conferences are scheduled from 4-8 p.m.
During the school year, utilize Infinite Campus to check a student’s weekly progress.
Kenston Center Stage
Kenston Center Stage has announce its two productions for the year. “Suite Surrender” will debut in the fall and “Seussical The Musical” in the spring.
