Kenston High School is again one of a select number of Ohio schools to receive a Momentum Award from the Ohio Department of Education.
KHS Receives Momentum Award
Kenston High School is again one of a select number of Ohio schools to receive a Momentum Award from the Ohio Department of Education. The award recognizes schools that are exceeding expectations in student growth for the year. The high school has received this honor for the third consecutive year.
The high school is one of 174 of the state’s over 3,300 school buildings to be honored with this award in 2019.
Criteria for the award requires districts and schools to earn all A’s on all applicable, value-added measures on the Ohio School Report Card in 2019 and to have at least two of three graded value-added subgroups, which includes gifted students, students in the lowest 20 percent in achievement and students with disabilities.
Kestranek Takes Gold
Kenston senior Tyler Kestranek earned gold at the Skills USA Carpentry competition. Tylerframed walls using wood and/or steel studs, cut and installed rafters, gable end overhangs, fascia board and soffit installation, installed sheathing and/or exterior siding and trim. He also demonstrated knowledge of stair construction. Tyler was judged on accuracy, ability to read and interpret blueprints, workmanship, safety and the proper use of tools, equipment and materials.
Purple Star Award

Congressman Dave Joyce visited Kenston Middle School to recognize the staff for receiving the Purple Start designation. The Ohio Department of Education recognizes schools that meet criteria supporting military families.
“At Kenston, we have the deepest admiration for those serving in the military and protecting the freedoms that we enjoy every day. The Purple Star designation recognizes our commitment to serving and supporting our local military families and their students,” said Superintendent Nancy Santilli.
Timmons Lunch Bunch
Congratulations to Timmons Elementary School Students of the Month who were recognized for their compassion.
Kindergartners honored were Harlan Carroll, Colt Fugman, Raygan Hudson, Stephen (Gio) Kantura, Piper Meier, Charlotte Thompson, Piper Watson and Elianna Woodruff. First-graders were Grace Bull, Isabel Czekaj, Genevieve Gould, Michael Marsh, Jack Pease, Blake Snelson and Annie Vander Wyst.
Second-graders were Aspen Carr, Lillian Ellis, Natalie Frankfort, Lauren Keary, Paisley Pealer, Finley Scharver, Garrett Smith and Bailey Wilson. Third-graders were Avery Childress, Alison El-Hayek, Danielle Johnson, Owen Kowalski, Marisa Miker, Lyla Sawchik, Savannah Uchbar and Ella Wiese.

Kenston Intermediate School is pleased to announce their Students of the Month for February. Students selected for “compassion” honors were fourth-graders Reagan Carnes, Mary Kate Carney, Eddie Dooley, Luke Fender, Riley O’Hare, Cole Pealer, Caroline Pixley, Zachary Radefeld, Alayna Taylor, William Thompson, Quinn Wilson and Logan Zack; and fifth-graders Jocelyn Caputa, Aiden Caspell, Michael Hutchison, Calvin Stefancin, Payton Timmons, Anthony Tomaselli, Daphne Uhlir and Logan Wichert.

Candidates Night
Political Action Committee of Kenston (PACK) and the League of Women Voters of Geauga County will host a Candidates Night Forum at 6:30 p.m. March 9 in the Kenston High School, Robert A. Lee Auditorium, 9500 Bainbridge Road. Candidates and issue representatives will present, followed by a question and answer session from the audience. Campaign materials will also be available.
