KMS Science Olympiad
The middle school team comprised of scientists in grades 6-9 placed seventh overall at the state tournament. (Tied for the highest finish in team history.) Sixteen individual events placed in the Top 10.
Scientists in Division B placing in their events were Matthew Nidy and Ben Fink for Digital Structures, second place; Jack Beclay and Lindsey Myshrall for Disease Detectives, second place; Lisa Markoff and Sophie Voudris in Dynamic Planet, second place; Max Rossiter and Ryan Menary in Mousetrap Vehicle, second place; Jack Beclay and Ben Fink for Food Science, third place; Lindsey Myshrall and Max Rossiter in Road Scholar, third place; Sam Snyder and Gavin Watson in Agribio, fifth place; Lisa Markoff, Max Rossiter and Chloe Syslo in Experimental Design, fifth place; Max Rossiter and Chloe Syslo in Machines, fifth place; Sophie Voudris and Shriya Selvan are Crime Busters, sixth place; Jack Beclay and Sophie Voudris in Fossils, sixth place; Ben Fink and Charlotte Syslo for Mission Possible, sixth place; Lisa Markoff and Ben Fink in Anatomy and Physiology, eighth place; Lisa Markoff and Shriya Selvan for Meteorology, eighth place; Lisa Markoff and Lindsey Myshrall in Water Quality, ninth place; and Jack Beclay and Michael Thompson in Heredity, 10th place.
KHS Science Olympiad
Congratulations to the Kenston High School Science Olympiad team for placing 17th at the state tournament. The following students place in their individual events: Amelia Witmer-Rich and Jessie Kirschman in Disease Detectives, third place; Viktoriya Taran and Louis Polien in Anatomy and Physiology, third place; Tyler Larkin and Johnny Martino for Fossils, fourth place; and Amelia Witmer-Rich and Jessie Kirschman in Protein Modeling.
Franklin B. Walter Award
Nicolas Sanchez was awarded the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award. One senior from each county within Ohio receives the award annually. Nicolas is the Geauga County winner this year.
Nick was recognized for demonstrating outstanding academic achievements as indicated by high school test scores and achievement awards as stipulated by the Franklin B. Walter program. He is also a positive contributor to our high school and community.
Nick plans on attending The Ohio State University next year to study electrical engineering and computer science. Ten years from now, he hopes to be creating new technologies for the music industry.
The Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award’s Program was established by the Ohio Superintendent’s Educational Service Center Association to promote student achievement and recognize outstanding students. This scholarship award is named in honor of Franklin B. Walter who served as State Superintendent of Education for Ohio from March 1977 until August 1991.
