National Merit Scholars
Kenston High School juniors Cooper Akers, Nya Ku, Elena Lioudis, Michael Overman and Madeline Worsdall met the 2021 National Merit Scholar Program requirements as a result of their 2020 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test score. They are among the 50,000 highest-scoring participants who will be recognized as either a semifinalist or commended student in the fall. Those selected as semifinalists will then have the opportunity to pursue the competition for about 7,600 National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2021.
Fulbright Scholar Program
For the third time, Kenston is pleased to be part of The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Media Literacy Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The program focuses on global education and provides teachers with an opportunity to increase their expertise and knowledge of media literacy.
The Fellows from all over the world come to the United States to learn and take valuable information about media literacy back to their own countries and classrooms. Kent State University is a host university in the program.
The locally placed Fellows are involved in seminars within Kent State University and in cultural experiences around the Kent campus. They are assigned to approximately five different partner districts in the area, including Kenston. In the assignments, they also have the opportunity to learn about U.S. classroom environments and instruct alongside U.S. teachers. Kenston hosted English teacher Aytan Musayeva from Azerbaijan and Ausra Skeivyte from Lithuania, who teaches English and theater.
