Good Luck Graduates

As the 2014-15 school year begins, Kenston wishes its 2014 graduates well as they embrace the future. Of the class of 2014, 92 percent will be entering a four-year college, specialty or technical school. Six percent will enter the military or workforce.

All State Choir

Sophomore Catherine Zickert has been selected to sing with the 2015 Ohio Musical Educators Association All State Choir in the first soprano section. Mrs. Julie Green is Kenston’s choral director.

Food Drive

Beat hunger in Geauga County. On Friday night, Kenston and Chardon will be competing on the football field, but during the week they will engage in a contest to collect the most food for the United Way/Geauga Hunger Task Force.

Nonperishable food items can be dropped off at the high school or brought to the first home football game on Sept. 5. National Honor Society member Kate Blackburn is managing and organizing the food drive for Kenston.

Kenston Kick-off Classic

Let’s go Bombers. Kenston Athletic Boosters invites the Kenston community to attend the annual Kickoff Classic Tailgate on Sept. 5 before the football game against Chardon. Pregame activities and food sales begin at 4:30 p.m. Feed the family for $5 per person. Be part of the tradition. PTO is giving away Bomber rally towels. Wear Bomber Blue.

School Bus Safety

As students return to school, the school district needs everyone’s help to keep kids safe as they get on the bus. Believe it or not, children are safer traveling in school buses than in any other type of motor vehicle. However, every year, school bus accidents happen because many drivers forget about some school bus safety basics.

Ohio has laws that require all vehicles to come to a halt when a school bus has its stop sign out and its red lights flashing. These signals indicate that children are getting on or off the bus.

When one is sharing the road with school buses, remember these rules: Do not pass a school bus until the red lights and signals are turned off; always stop when traveling in the same direction as the bus; and never pass on the right side of the bus. Besides being illegal, this is where children enter and exit.

Will Train Bus Drivers

Kenston Transportation Department needs individuals with current CDL school bus endorsement for contract or substitute driver positions. Transportation is willing to train drivers.

Bomberettes Invited to Perform at Capital One Bowl

Every Friday night in the Kenston Local School District, the Kenston High School Bomberette dance team dons white boots, glittering uniforms and everlasting smiles to perform their hearts out for their community. The dance team performs at halftime shows with the Kenston High School marching band during football season, during basketball games, at the Geauga County Fair, at Cedar Point, in parades and many other places.

The team thrives on discipline, motivation, determination and heart. With these aptitudes, they have accomplished outstanding achievements, which include countless invitations and opportunities to perform around the country, first place successes at several local competitions, top honors at Universal Dance Association (UDA) summer camps and, of course, its “repeat” national title with CCC Cheer and Dance competitions.

This year’s Kenston Bomberette dance team is in a position to perform at the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla., on New Year’s Day. It earned this invitation at the Universal Dance Association summer camp by winning the 110 percent award and the spirit stick every night. Every Bomberette won a blue ribbon in all three of her routines for a total of 51 blue ribbons. The accolades earned the girls the highest overall score at camp.

To help defray the costs of associated with attending the Capital One bowl game and performing, the Kenston Bomberettes is asking individuals in the community to make a donation to help support the trip. Please consider making a donation that will help the team to keep succeeding and making this community proud with its national recognition at the Capital One Bowl.
