National Geographic Bee

Congratulations to West Geauga Middle School seventh-grader Ryan J. Martin, who has qualified to represent West Geauga and participate at the state level of the National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. The state bee will be held April 5 at Grandview Heights High School in Columbus.

Student participants in the state level must be from the proper grade levels of four through eight and must have participated in and won the contest at the school level that involved at least six students. One winner from each state and territory will advance to the national competition, which will be held May 20-22 in Washington, D.C.

The final round of the 2013 National Geographic Bee, moderated by Alex Trebek, will air on the National Geographic Channel on May 23 and later on public television stations.

Senior Citizens Recognition

Senior citizens living in the West Geauga community are invited to the annual West Geauga Senior Citizens Recognition Dinner May 8 at 4:30 p.m. in the West Geauga High School cafeteria, 13401 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. Sponsored by West Geauga Local Schools and the Rotary Club of Chesterland, the evening promises to be fun and entertaining.

Payment of $5 per person will be collected at the door. For reservations, call Sandy at the West Geauga Board of Education Office at 440-729-6803 by May 1.

WG Celebrates Youth Art Month

March is Youth Art Month. To celebrate, artwork by Westwood and Lindsey elementary school students will be on display around the local community.

Lindsey Elementary School students who have artwork on display at Geauga West Library include: Morgan Palchick, Landen Phillips, Sofia Romano, Ella Murray, Athena Hocevar, James Mullally, Tyler Kabay, Teagan Sprague, Sarah Harbert, Emily Allegretti, Madison Bahleda, Haley Murray Pruey, Melody Szapowalski, John Stafford, Tyler Fulton, Eve Nevar, Maggie Furst, Natalie Zargari and Maddie Barker.

Geauga West Library will have artwork by the following Westwood students on display: Rachel Ange, Dartanyon Birks, Arden Frankmann, Claire Mersol, Ben Mihacevich, Leisy Simkins, Mia Spyker, Juliana Faraguna, Chaise Harris, Isabella Costa, Lorenzo Casanova, Ana Bihun, Emma Clark, Kaden Knake, Shannon McKinney and Halle Mihacevich.

Art Trade Show

To celebrate Youth Art Month, Robert C. Lindsey and Westwood Elementary Schools have an “Art Trade Show,” a creative collaboration between the buildings. Lindsey gets to see what Westwood has been working on and Westwood gets to see what Lindsey students have been creating.
