Jesus and Bread Day Celebration

On April 25, Miss Frate’s and Miss Amantea’s second-grade students celebrated Jesus and Bread Day. The retreat began with making bread and then continued with multiple craft stations that prepare the children for their First Communion. The students brought their bread home to share with their families. A special thank you goes to the parent volunteers who helped make the day so special.

Rubber Band Inventors

Congratulations to Meghan Bhanoo and Madeleine Williams, NDES seventh-grade finalists in the Rubber Band Contest for young Inventors hosted by the Akron Global Polymer Academy, an outreach division of The University of Akron College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering.

Students in Mrs. Halle Davis’ seventh-grade STEM class were challenged to design and create a working invention that incorporates at least one rubber band. Several designs were submitted for competition in the Rubber Band Contest.

In the Science and Engineering Division, “Paw Spa” designed by Madeleine Williams and “Rubber Rebounder” designed by Meghan Bhanoo were selected and will move on to the final round of competition on May 31.

The Rubber Band Contest was created in 2008 by the Akron Global Polymer Academy as a way of drawing students into the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) education through a hands-on learning experience that emphasizes creativity, discovery, and innovation.
