Sixth-Grade Field Trip

Newbury’s sixth-grade class won a grant from the National Park Trust that allowed them to visit Cuyahoga Valley National Park and work hand in hand with several of the park rangers. While there, students learned about the native plants and animals and how to help preserve their natural habit by removing invasive species. They collaboratively worked hard to remove privet, one of the invasive species, and helped clear out new growth areas for native plants. It was a successful hands-on learning experience.

Spring Choral Concert

Newbury Junior-Senior High School will hold its spring choral concert, “Change,” on May 20 at 7 p.m. in Newbury auditorium. “Change” is a production of the students’ studies and research over the past semester. Students have discussed world events that have changed society over the past century such as the Civil Rights Movement, the Holocaust, the Paris attacks and the Syrian refugee crisis. Students have compiled the music of this concert to sing about the change in their own lives and in the lives of others through these major events in order to tell stories, to acknowledge struggle and to seek hope.

The concert will feature Newbury’s junior high chorus, high school chorus, men’s ensemble, women’s ensemble and fifth-grade choir. The concert is free and open to the public.
