Upside of DOWNS at NDCL

With many causes in the forefront, NDCL students took an opportunity to support Down Syndrome Awareness Month. The students, who believe the cause aligns with NDCL’s core values – justice, respect, integrity, community and excellence – raised $1,400 for The Upside of DOWNS, an organization that provides support, education, and advocacy for people with Down syndrome, their families and communities. Friel and Associates, a Chardon-based accounting firm, matched $1 for every student participant, bringing the fundraising total to $1,900.

Physics Students Launch Rockets

NDCL physics and AP physics students turn lessons in kinematics and Newton’s Law into practical application as teams of two build and launch small rockets. Using Verniers Logger Pro software purchased with a grant from Lubrizol, stopwatches, altimeter and a high-speed camera, the students calculate the acceleration of the rocket at liftoff and velocity.
