Lights, Sound, Skate

STEM is everywhere. On Nov. 28, NDES kindergarten and first-graders explored the world of lights, sound and wheels on their field trip to United Skates of America in Wickliffe. This STEM-focused field trip revealed how the audio design of a roller rink is dependent on basic sound mechanics. Students also learned how science, technology, engineering and math are part of everyday fun experiences such as roller-skating.

Science Olympiad Team Places Second

Students in grades six through eight participated in Science Olympiad at St. Ignatius High School on Nov. 19. Led by moderators Casie Long, Nicole Bukovec and Steve Cavolo, students have been preparing for the competition since September.

In the Open Division, NDES students took second place overall. Some participants will be moving on to the Northeastern Regional Tournament at Case Western Reserve University in February.
