Blue Ribbon Celebration
On Oct. 10, NDES celebrated its 2014 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award with a picnic lunch for students, faculty and staff. Everyone also received a T-shirt commemorating the award, which recognizes NDES as an exemplary, high performing school.
On Nov. 10 and 11, Notre Dame Elementary School will be honored along with 287 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Scientific Method Exploration
Sixth-grade science students learn to critically think by exploring the scientific method. By developing hypotheses, making observations and drawing conclusions, NDES students will have the necessary tools to solve any problems or challenges in the future.
First-Grade Reading
First-graders enhance their reading strategies and fluency with the Cloze method, just one of the methods used at NDES. With this method, students are given a sentence with blanks and then they have to fill in the blanks in the passage with the correct words from the word bank.
Lessons using the Cloze procedure can also expand students’ use of language structure cues, meaning cues and background knowledge to predict unknown words.
