Right Sized Pizza
NDES first-graders participated in the Right Size Pizza Program at the Lake Metroparks Farmpark. The interactive experience taught children how pizza is made from the farm to the table.
They learned about proper nutrition, made their own pizzas and discovered how cheese is made. They even assisted in making and grinding the wheat for the dough.
Making Paper
Third-graders took a tour of the Morgan Conservatory in Cleveland. The trip began with a tour of the factory, where the students viewed many different paper presses and learned about different types of natural and organic material that make paper.
The students rotated between three stations. The first station was bookbinding, where the kids assembled and sewed together a book. The second station was a marbling table, where students were able to use various colors to drip into a water-based solution that they would swirl to make a colorful design onto paper.
Their works of art will be on display and auctioned at the NDES annual auction and casino night on March 7, 2015.
Roller Skating In Phys Ed
NDES students in grades 4-8 are learning how to roller-skate in physical education class. Students received lessons on how to properly fall, stand up, skate, stop and turn.
All skates are rented through Skatetime School Programs. Students are learning proper skate safety as well as developing coordination and balance.
New this year was the morning skate program, which allowed a limited number of students to skate before school hours.
