Connecting NE Ohio’s Past to Present
Fourth-grade students participated in a program, “From There to Here,” presented by the Western Reserve Historical Society. Students learned about migration and immigration in the Ohio region. They also explored the cultures and daily lives of groups who settled in Ohio.
Groups of students received a suitcase with documents, photos, letters and descriptions of a family along with the clothing that the family members would have worn. In small groups, students studied the contents of the suitcase and presented their information to the class.
Kick-It for Cancer
Support the fighters, admire the survivors, honor the taken and never give up hope. On May 5, NDES joined NDCL to build awareness for children’s cancer with the fourth annual Kick-it for Cancer event. NDCL’s gym was filled with children of all ages playing kick ball and honoring the survivors, those who have lost their lives to cancer and those who continue to fight.
At the event, NDES honored the memory of Sam Szabo, a second-grade student at NDES who lost his battle with leukemia in October 2011. The Samuel Szabo Foundation is dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research.

Annual Dance Recital
NDES preschool students performed at their annual dance recital. As part of the preschool physical education curriculum, children learn very valuable gross motor skills and social skills through their movement to music class, which is taught by Elaine Nelisse.
Kindergarten through third-grade students who participated in the after school dance program performed their selected numbers taught in dance club. Dance club is one of the many extracurricular clubs offered at NDES.
Principal for the Day
NDES students Madeleine, Kate and Paul Williams became the “principals” for the day. The live auction item at the NDES annual auction and casino night in March allowed the Williams family children to host a few fun events at the school. Among the highlights of the day was a movie and Skittles dress down day.
