Real World Exponential Equations

NDES eighth-grade algebra students discover exponential equations through real world examples. As a collaboration activity involving algebraic equations and the properties of physics, students over the course of a week tested a ball’s recoil and the recoil decay of a bouncing ball.

Both experiments allowed students to test their hypothesis along with measuring growth by using exponential equations, one with growth and the other with decay.

Winter Overnight Learning

Camping is not just for summer. On Jan. 11-14, sixth-grade students embarked on an overnight learning adventure at the Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center (CVEEC). CVEEC is a unique learning place that incorporates classroom instruction such as art, technology, science, math, social studies and language arts into a discovery based program.

Students were immersed in nature from the moment they stepped off the bus with hikes through the 500 acres of wilderness, performing and viewing environmental experiments, exploring animal behavior and habitation, participating in team building activities and songs and enjoying nutritious meals prepared from locally produced foods. Students encountered nature each day and discovered their important role and responsibility to each other and the world around them.
