Ohio History Day
Several eighth-grade students competed in the Region 4 Ohio History Day Competition at Youngstown State University. Of the 12 students that competed, three will move on to the state competition at Ohio Wesleyan University on April 22.
Congratulations to Ella Laneve and her exhibit on Oberlin College, Paul Williams and his exhibit on the War of 1812, and Samuel Bottino with his website on Tecumseh.
Trip to Los Venados
The language and cultural studies elective class took a field trip to Los Venados Mexican Restaurant that highlighted the heritage and flavors of Mexican cuisine. The field trip was made possible thanks to the continued kindness and generosity of the Martinez family in providing a hands-on experience for the students at their family restaurant.
Mr. Armando Martinez’s presentation was delivered with such kindness that the students felt comfortable practicing their Spanish as they asked questions of him. Of course, the best part for the students was making the Mexican dishes and then enjoying them together at table. The field trip gave the students insights into a key aspect of the Hispanic experience that they are bound to remember.
