Planting for the Spring
Mrs. Lindsay Montague’s second-grade class enjoyed being outdoors with Sister Barbara Soplata. Students took turns planting their own individual daffodil bulb by searching for a spot in the gardens near the outdoor classroom. After planting, the children took a nature walk and even found a toad and salamander.
Human Centered Designs
The seventh- and eighth-grade students put their focus on seeing problems through the lens of a specific person or group of people. Human Centered Design focuses STEM learning on empathy first and then problem solving.
Seventh-graders learned about arthritis and the daily struggles that make simple tasks difficult. They were asked to adapt tools and methods to make the daily tasks less taxing.
Eighth-grade students were given a unique person with unique pains, passions and personality traits. After getting to know their person, they were challenged to design a chair that included multiple design elements specific to that person.
