Parachutes and Gravity
NDES’ second-grade STEM students put their engineering minds to work and constructed parachutes. Students studied Newton’s Laws of Motion, gravity, acceleration, friction, air resistance and velocity, all of which will affect the success of their parachute. Then, in groups, students created parachutes and tested their designs and reported which materials worked best.

Sixth-grade science students are learning the basics of plant and animal cells. To help visualize the internal structure of animal and plant cells, students created 3-D cell models. From left are Hayden Dixon, Mate Katic and Adam Kerwood.
NDES Chess Club
NDES Chess Club members Liam Fraser, Nicholas Wojnar, Milo Humphreys, Liam Humphreys, Sam Bottino and Roman Preziuso participated in the four-round tournament held at St. Helen School along with 26 other chess enthusiasts from St. Helen, St. Anselm and Millridge schools. Ultimately, Nicholas Wojnar was the winner of the tournament and took home the first place trophy.
All of the NDES players had points on the board for wins or stalemate splits and represented NDES in fine form. Chess Club is one of many after school clubs offered at NDES.
